Strategy for Psychic Winds
This deck focuses on stalling and controlling the opponent while setting up Mewtwo-ex as your primary attacker in the late game. Meowth serves as an early-game staller and card-drawer, while Pidgeot uses its ability to disrupt the opponent’s setup. Gardevoir plays a key support role, powering up your Active Psychic Pokémon with energy, ensuring they’re ready to attack efficiently. Budding Expeditioner helps keep Mew-ex in play longer by cycling it back to your hand for healing and redeployment. Leaf's ability removes the retreat cost, which is crucial in enabling strategic rotations between your Pokémon.
Gameplay Steps
1. Early Game (Turns 1-3): Stall with Meowth and Set Up the Bench
- Active Pokémon:
- Start with Meowth as your sacrificial Active Pokémon.
- Use Meowth’s ability to draw cards each turn to help you find evolution pieces, energy, and support cards.
- Sacrificial Role:
- Let Meowth stall for 2-3 turns while you set up your Bench—it doesn’t matter if it’s knocked out early.
- Bench Setup:
- Priority 1: Evolve Ralts → Kirlia → Gardevoir to enable energy acceleration, setting up Gardevoir as your primary energy source.
- Priority 2: Evolve Pidgey → Pidgeotto → Pidgeot to prepare for disruption.
- Priority 3: Set Mew-ex on the Bench early to keep pressure on the opponent with its ability to copy attacks.
- Energy Attachments:
- Attach energy to Mew-ex as soon as possible to enable its ability to copy attacks, but make sure to prioritize Gardevoir for energy acceleration.
- Gardevoir’s ability can only be used on Active Psychic Pokémon, so once Mewtwo-ex is in play as the Active Pokémon, use Gardevoir to accelerate energy onto it.
- Search Tools:
- Use Poké Ball to search for Basic Pokémon, ideally Mew-ex or Mewtwo-ex, to place on your Bench early if they aren’t drawn naturally.
- Professor’s Research is also useful for drawing into evolution pieces, energy, or support cards.
2. Midgame (Turns 4+): Power Up Mewtwo-ex and Keep Pressure with Mew-ex
Once Meowth is knocked out, your primary goal is to get Mewtwo-ex into the Active position and start powering it up. Meanwhile, Mew-ex keeps the pressure on the opponent.
- Mew-ex for Pressure:
- Mew-ex serves as a way to keep pressure on your opponent by copying their active Pokémon’s attacks.
- While Mewtwo-ex is still being powered up, Mew-ex ensures that your opponent can't take a breather or start setting up their own attackers.
- If Mew-ex takes damage, Budding Expeditioner can be used to cycle it back into your hand and leave a space for Mewtwo-ex.
- If Mewtwo-ex isn’t powered up yet, Leaf helps you bring Mew-ex back into play more efficiently.
- Mewtwo-ex as the Primary Attacker:
- Once Meowth is knocked out, Mewtwo-ex should be your next priority to get into the Active spot.
- Focus on powering up Mewtwo-ex with energy from the Energy field.
- Use Mew-ex to keep up the pressure during this process by copying your opponent’s attacks.
- If Mewtwo-ex has been powered up sufficiently, it can start dealing 150 damage per turn, making it a formidable threat.
- Gardevoir for Energy Acceleration:
- Gardevoir’s ability accelerates energy to Active Psychic Pokémon. Use it to power Mewtwo-ex as it becomes your primary attacker.
- Gardevoir is not used for attacking—it strictly serves as support to enable Mewtwo-ex to keep attacking with consistent damage.
3. Late Game: Set Up Mewtwo-ex for the Final Push
In this phase, Mewtwo-ex should be fully powered up and ready to deliver high-damage attacks. The goal is to consistently hit for 150+ damage per turn.
- Mewtwo-ex as the Star Attacker:
- Mewtwo-ex should now be in the Active position, dealing 150+ damage per turn with its attack.
- Mewtwo-ex’s attack removes 2 energy with every hit, but Gardevoir’s energy acceleration will ensure that it can keep attacking without running out of energy.
- Budding Expeditioner to Cycle Mew-ex:
- If Mew-ex takes damage, Budding Expeditioner allows you to retrieve it back into your hand, healing it and keeping it available for later.
- Pidgeot’s Disruption:
- Keep Pidgeot active to continually disrupt your opponent’s Pokémon, forcing them to switch out their main attackers for weaker ones.
- This gives Mewtwo-ex time to keep attacking with minimal interference.
Key Roles of Each Pokémon
- Mewtwo-ex
- Primary attacker: The star of your deck, dealing heavy damage to the opponent with 150+ damage per turn.
- Energy acceleration from Gardevoir ensures that Mewtwo-ex can consistently attack without running out of power.
- Mew-ex
- Pressure tool: While Mewtwo-ex is being powered up, Mew-ex keeps your opponent on the defensive by copying their active Pokémon’s attacks.
- Budding Expeditioner helps cycle it back into your hand to keep it available for more attack copying.
- Retreat with Leaf: When needed, Leaf’s ability helps Mew-ex retreat and re-enter the game, allowing you to maintain pressure with its attacks.
- Meowth
- Early-game stall: Draw cards to set up your Bench while delaying your opponent’s progress.
- Sacrificial Pokémon that buys you time to prepare your attackers.
- Potion Usage: If the Bench isn’t fully set or Mew-ex lacks enough energy, you can use Potion on Meowth to keep it alive for a few more turns, giving you more time to finish your setup.
- Gardevoir
- Energy accelerator: Supports Mewtwo-ex and other Active Psychic Pokémon by providing the energy needed for powerful attacks.
- Can only be used on Active Psychic Pokémon, so it powers up Mewtwo-ex and Mew-ex when they’re in the Active spot.
- Pidgeot
- Disruption specialist: Forces your opponent’s weak Pokémon into the Active Spot, giving you time to set up and take easy knockouts.
- Leaf
- Retreat enabler: Removes the retreat cost of 2 Energy, allowing smooth rotation of Mew-ex and Mewtwo-ex, ensuring both remain in play and continue to apply pressure.
Support Cards and Their Purpose
- Budding Expeditioner:
- Exclusively used to retrieve Mew-ex for healing and redeployment.
- Potion:
- Use to heal Meowth for additional turns, or Mewtwo-ex or Gardevoir to keep them in play longer.
- Professor’s Research:
- Draw into needed evolution pieces, energy, or support cards.
- Poké Ball:
- Search for Basic Pokémon, ideally Mew-ex or Mewtwo-ex, to place on your Bench early if they aren’t drawn naturally.
Final Notes
- Mewtwo-ex = The Star:
- The focus of the deck is to power up Mewtwo-ex as your primary attacker, especially for the late game, and deal consistent high damage.
